Market Maker
A firm that stands ready to both buy and sell a security, providing liquidity and profiting from the bid-ask spread.
Wholesale market makers execute large volumes of retail orders, paying brokers for that order flow. Their profit comes from the spread and from the relatively low-risk nature of retail flow.
